Jayson Tatum hit a 17-foot jumper as time expired to give the Boston Celtics a 125-124 overtime win over the winless Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden on October 27, the Boston Globe reported.

Tatum scored 40 points with eight assists and no turnovers, and made 18 of 22 free throws. Paul George added 20 points. Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with 27 points, and the Nets shot 17 of 50 from 3-point range.

Boston nearly closed out the game in regulation but let the lead slip in the closing seconds. Neemias Queta fouled Julius Randle on a rebound, Mitchell Robinson missed two free throws, and rookie Mikel Brown Jr. made a corner 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining to force overtime. Coach Joe Mazzulla said he stood by leaving Robinson, a weak free-throw shooter, on the floor.

Brooklyn led 124-119 in overtime before Randle fouled out and George's free throws cut the margin to one. Brown missed a layup in the final seconds rather than running out the clock, setting up Tatum's winner after a timeout with 2.3 seconds left.

"It was a hell of a feeling," Tatum said of the moment after returning from injury.
