Tiverton has been awarded a grant to help the Rhode Island town address PFAS contamination in its water wells, WPRI reported on October 15, 2026.
Officials were scheduled to provide details about the funding, according to the station. The size of the award, the agency providing it and the specific work it will pay for were not disclosed in the report.
PFAS, a group of synthetic compounds used in products such as firefighting foam and stain-resistant coatings, do not readily break down in the environment and have been detected in public and private drinking water supplies across New England. Treating or replacing affected wells can require significant capital spending by small water systems, and communities across the region have turned to state and federal grant programs to cover the cost.
