Massachusetts voters have until Oct. 24 to register for the Nov. 3 general election, a deadline set 10 days before Election Day, according to a voter guide published by WBUR on Oct. 14.

Residents can sign up through an online form, by mail or at a municipal election office, WBUR reported. Many eligible residents are enrolled automatically through transactions with state agencies, including the Registry of Motor Vehicles and the state's health insurance marketplace, so voters are advised to confirm their status before the cutoff. People registering for the first time are asked to include a copy of an identification document showing their name and address; without it, they may be asked for ID at the polls.

Any registered voter may cast a mail ballot without giving a reason. Applications must reach local election offices by 5 p.m. on Oct. 27, though the secretary of state's office suggests applying online by Oct. 20. Completed mail ballots must arrive by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 to be counted, and can also be left in municipal drop boxes.

Early in-person voting runs Oct. 17 through Oct. 30, with hours and sites varying by city and town. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Nine statewide ballot questions will appear, tying a record, WBUR reported.
