Encompass Health Opens 50-Bed Rehab Hospital In Bangor
The 54,000-square-foot facility is the national rehabilitation operator's first wholly owned hospital in Maine and is now taking patients.

Encompass Health said on Oct. 6, 2026 that it has opened a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Bangor, Maine, and is now admitting patients, according to a company announcement distributed by PR Newswire.
The facility, which covers more than 54,000 square feet, treats patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. Patients receive at least three hours of intensive therapy five days a week, including physical, occupational and speech therapy, along with 24-hour nursing care and regular physician visits.
The building includes private rooms, a therapy gym, a suite that simulates daily living environments, an in-house dialysis suite and pharmacy, an outdoor therapy courtyard and a dining room.
The Bangor hospital is the Birmingham, Ala.-based company's first wholly owned hospital in Maine. Encompass Health also participates in New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland, a joint venture with MaineHealth.
Mat Gooch, president of the company's Northeast region, said the hospital will address demand for specialized rehabilitation care in the Bangor area while helping "alleviate inpatient capacity pressures" on nearby acute care hospitals.
Encompass Health, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker EHC, operates 178 hospitals in 39 states and Puerto Rico.
