Goodwin University, a nonprofit college based in East Hartford, Connecticut, said on October 14, 2026 that it will offer tuition-free training and degree programs to Massachusetts residents who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, through the state's SNAP Path to Work initiative, according to a company announcement distributed by PR Newswire.

Students who qualify can take courses at no charge, with most delivered online. Offerings range from non-credit coursework and short professional badge programs to certificates and associate degrees, aimed at jobs in health care, business, manufacturing, human services and funeral service.

The university has run similar SNAP-funded training in Connecticut for more than a decade, and said more than 200 students finished those programs between 2024 and 2026. In August 2026 it began working with Vermont's 3SquaresVT program, where it said it is the only education provider.

Mark Scheinberg, president of Goodwin University, said cost and rigid schedules keep many workers from earning credentials employers want, while "local industries need employees."

Goodwin awards certificates as well as associate, bachelor's and graduate degrees.
