U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren will travel to Maine on October 17 to campaign with Troy Jackson, the Democratic nominee challenging Republican Senator Susan Collins, according to the Boston Globe.
Warren is scheduled to appear with Jackson at a "No Kings" rally in Portland that afternoon, followed by a town hall in Kennebunk organized with End Citizens United, an advocacy group that tracks candidates who pledge not to accept corporate PAC money.
The trip returns Warren to a race Democrats view as essential to winning a Senate majority in November. She had previously campaigned in Portland with Graham Platner, the progressive candidate whose campaign ended after allegations that he sexually assaulted a former girlfriend. Platner had also faced earlier controversies, including a tattoo of a Nazi symbol and past social media comments, the Globe reported.
Jackson, a former Maine Senate president, won the nomination in July at a convention Maine Democrats convened to replace Platner. Public polling shows him running even with Collins, who has held the seat for nearly three decades.
"Stopping Trump's rubber stamp in the Senate goes right through Maine," Warren said in a statement.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders campaigned with Jackson in Bangor and Lewiston during the weekend of October 10. Warren also rallied in Michigan that weekend with Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
