The Hidden Parlor Society, a members' club built around American Mahjong, has opened at 69 Park Street in Andover and signed up more than 70 members, the company said on October 7.
Members come from more than two dozen cities and towns in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, according to the company's records. The club said more than 60 members and guests came through during its first week, and that six tables were in use on the opening night of its Tuesday evening league.
Visitors reach the club through a boutique storefront and a concealed entrance. Beyond the Mahjong tables, the space includes a lounge with a library, a room set aside for video calls and storage lockers for members. The operators said they plan to add a book club, bridge and other games.
The opening follows a rise in local demand for the tile game. Eventbrite data cited by Boston.com showed Boston-area Mahjong events rose 420% between 2024 and 2025. Yelp's 2026 Trend Forecast, reported by The Boston Globe, recorded a 4,467% increase in searches for "mahjong clubs" and an 819% increase in searches for lessons.
The club sells reservations for open play, lessons and guided play, and offers prospective members a free first visit.
