Boston Dynamics has hired Rohit Prasad, formerly a senior artificial intelligence executive at Amazon, as chief executive, according to 재경일보. The company disclosed the hire on October 6 and Prasad started the next day, on October 7.

The appointment closes out an interim leadership setup that had run since the departure of Robert Playter in February, the outlet reported.

Prasad joined Amazon in 2013 and worked on early versions of the Alexa voice assistant. Beginning in 2023 he was senior vice president and head scientist for Amazon's artificial general intelligence group, overseeing work on the company's Nova foundation models. He previously spent about 14 years on machine learning research at Raytheon BBN Technologies.

Boston Dynamics, owned by Hyundai Motor Group, sells the Spot inspection robot and the Stretch warehouse robot, and is developing the electric humanoid Atlas. Prasad's assignment includes growing the industrial robot lines and bringing Atlas to market, 재경일보 reported.

Hyundai plans to put Atlas to work at its Metaplant America factory in Georgia starting in 2028 on parts picking and sequencing, with possible expansion to assembly tasks by 2030. The group is also weighing models for building, distributing and financing robots inside the United States.
