The Mad Tinter, an automotive window tinting shop based in Detroit, Maine, said Maine's tint law sets a 35% floor for how much light must pass through the front side windows, while allowing darker film on the rear windows, the back glass and the strip above the windshield's AS-1 line, according to its website. The company said medical exemptions to the law are available through the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Three XPEL Film Tiers
The company, which describes itself as Maine's XPEL Dealer of the Year, installs three tiers of XPEL automotive film, according to its website: PRIME CS, a color-stable carbon film; PRIME XR, which adds nano-ceramic technology for higher infrared heat rejection and clearer glass; and PRIME XR PLUS, which it calls the top tier for infrared rejection and clarity. Each of the three tiers blocks 99% of UV rays, the company said, and every automotive tint installation comes with a lifetime warranty.
The Mad Tinter said most vehicles are finished the same day, with drop-off options for customers who work during the day, and that new tint should be left to cure for three to five days, during which some haziness or small water pockets are normal and clear on their own.
Marine Film, Coatings And Bird Safety
Beyond automotive work, the company's listed services include marine window tinting for boats and pontoons, residential and commercial window film, XPEL ceramic coatings and paint protection film for vehicle exteriors, and Feather Friendly film, which it describes as a bird-safe glass marker meant to prevent bird strikes while keeping the glass clear. The company said its ceramic coatings are intended to protect a vehicle's paint while keeping its finish, and that paint protection film serves as a layer against road debris.
Serving Central And Eastern Maine
The Mad Tinter operates out of 300 River Rd. in Detroit, Maine, between Waterville and Bangor along Interstate 95, according to its website, and said customers travel to the shop from Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Ellsworth, Hampden, Old Town, Orono and Waterville.
